The Corona Virus tracker by Microsoft Bing is a web portal with a global map. The moment a user rolls cursor over any country on the world map, bing.com/covid reveals total confirmed cases, active cases, recovered cases and fatal cases of that region. On further clicking the mouse, one gets to see updated news videos related to COVID-19 pandemic from that specific area. “Lots of Bing folks worked (from home) this past week to create a mapping and authoritative news resource for COVID-19 info,” ZDNet quoted Michael Schechter, General Manager for Bing Growth and Distribution at Microsoft, as saying. In order to bring down the impact of COVID-19 crises, Microsoft is also working to enable people worldwide to work remotely without sacrificing collaboration, productivity and security. “At Microsoft, our top priority is the health and safety of employees, customers, partners, and communities. By making Teams available to as many people as possible, we aim to support public health and safety by keeping teams connected while they work apart,” Jared Spataro, Corporate Vice President for Microsoft 365, said in a blog post. Besides Microsoft, Sunder Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet said, “helping people get the right information to stay healthy is more important than ever in the face of a global pandemic like COVID-19.” Google has collaborated with the U.S. government in developing a website dedicated to COVID-19 education, prevention, and local resources nationwide. This includes best practices on prevention, links to authoritative information from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and helpful tips and tools from Google for individuals, teachers and businesses. Besides, the Google homepage is seen promoting the WHO’s “Do the Five” campaign to raise awareness of simple measures people can take to slow the spread of the disease. “In the first 24 hours, these tips have already been seen by millions in the U.S. We’ve added more useful information to our COVID-19 SOS Alerts, including links to national health authority sites and a map of affected areas from the WHO,” added Pichai.
